Trying new things in quarantine

During the lockdown, I wanted to try out some new things with all the spare time I've had being stuck inside. One thing I did was clear out so many clothes that I don't really wear anymore but putting some aside that I thought I could upcycle into something more trendy. I've never really sown before so I wanted to try it out. The first piece I made was out of a denim jacket that I haven't worn in years. I first cropped it and frayed the bottom to give it a beaten down and distressed look. With the bottom half of the jacket, I turned it into a crop top by adjusting it to fit my body and then sewing it together. I took the Calvin Klien band off some old leggings and sewed this onto the top and jacket by hand which was much more difficult than I anticipated. This gave it a refreshed look and made it more up to date and funky.
The second piece I made was inspired by Bella Hadids backless shirt. I started by using scissors to cut the back off an old shirt and then shaped the front to match hers. With the scrap material I made two thin strips which I then attached to the shirt so I could tie it at the back. I had to sew the edges of the shirt too to make sure it didn't look frayed and unfinished.
I also made a cute headband out of some old Victoria secret PJs which I cut up and added elastic to make it fit and be secured around my head.
After making all of these it inspired me to set up a Depop page to sell the things I make for some extra money.
