Double denim; the trend that divides society's opinions on whether it's a hit or miss.
In the fashion world, however, anything can be acceptable if it's done right. That said, there are still some 'rules' to consider, it's not as easy as Justin and Britney's iconic full denim moment for the 2001 American Music Awards.
The trend came to rise in the 70s and 80s
when wearing oversized jackets, tight jeans and acid wash was the look to be wearing. Whilst wearing double denim today is a horrifying concept to many, the trend has actually come back into fashion.
THE CLASSIC
Black jeans and jean jackets. A classic and simple look to wear if multiple shades of blue seem intimidating, try wearing one black denim piece to switch things up. An oversized jacket also creates a fresher and more on-trend outfit than keeping to a more tailored, fitted counterpart. Pair this with a plain white tee and you have a timeless, easy and casual look.
COLOURED DENIM
Different coloured denim can seem daunting at first but finding the right sets and shades to suit your style can work beautifully. 2018s summer found many high street fashion brands stocking matching coloured denim sets eg with red denim jackets matching short a-line denim skirts. These easy looks can be made to look effective and expensive when paired correctly but don't mix coloured denim, this could result in a multi-coloured mess. Working with black denim and colour works well, as well as blue denim and one other colour.
DENIM FIT
Wearing two slouchy denim separates can create a modern version of the classic 80s and 90s double denim looks. Keeping the colour of this denim similar also helps to tie the look together making the whole outfit match. A mom jean with an oversized jacket works well for a relaxed daytime look or add skinny jeans for a more classy look with a shorter, cropped jacket.
