After finding out about Kanopy and spending hours scrolling through in amazement the first film I wanted to watch was 'Dior & I'.
The documentary followed Raf Simons, a Belgian fashion designer, who had just taken over in 2012 as a creative director at the house of Christian Dior. He was tasked with putting together his first-ever haute couture show in just eight weeks, which is something which usually requires five or six months. Simons’ challenge was to honor the classic traditions of the house but also implement his own ideas and designs to give a modern edge.
I really enjoyed the documentary and it made me emotional in the end t see all his hard work turn out so beautiful on the runway. It gave me an insight into how fashion houses create haute couture in ateliers so intricately and are able to do so in short periods of time.
Simons collection was beautiful and was a modern take on Mr. Diors' classic collections. He was able to keep it classic and true to the fashion house but again make it much more contemporary.
