COVID-19 and staying positive

The coronavirus situation has really made the world turn upside down and now the government policy has been put in place to stay home it can be really difficult to stay positive during this crisis.

I'm someone who hates staying in when I'm not at university or at work I always try to stay proactive so as you can imagine it has been really hard for me. In the beginning, there were tears I can't lie, when my birthday holiday and all the summer festivals id paid for were being cancelled, but looking at the bigger picture I know there are people who have it a lot worse.

I came up with some ideas on how to stay positive and keep your mind healthy and busy so you don't go completely insane, so here's what I've been doing...

1- Maintaining a connection with the people you love, even if it can’t be a physical one.

I've been staying connected with my friends and family through facetime and an app called 'house party' in which you can video chat with a large number of people and play games together too.

2- Clear out your room

It's a great time to declutter things that you no longer need to create a clear space for a healthy mindset. This is a great opportunity to get inspired by new outfits or rediscover an old favourite.

3- Have a spa day

This is something I try to do once a week anyway but during self-isolation, you can take it a step further. Take a whole day out to look after yourself by doing your nails, hair, maybe fake tan, have a bubble bath and relax.

4- Read a book or magazine

Pass time by reading something. This is something I like to do in the morning while having a coffee and before bed to wind down. It will keep your brain from turning to mush!

5- Do evening drinks (from home)

Use facetime to keep up with friends, have a laugh, a glass of wine or three, and make the best of the lockdown. You don't always need to go out to get a little drunk with your friends and family.

6- Watch TV

Don't do this all day but to pass time, start a new series or watch a film that you've always wanted to see. If one day you have an off day (and believe me everyone does) then binge-watch Netflix and cuddle up in bed with all the snacks you need. I've done this a few times during self-isolation since Disney+ has been released and honestly its the best £5.99 I've ever spent.

7- Do a puzzle

Keep your mind occupied by trying to solve a puzzle, my guilty pleasure is sudoku.

8- Get creative

Try out something new, my mum has taught me how to sew and I've spent loads of time making my old clothes into something new and stylish. You could also draw or paint which I find helps me relax and take my mind off things.

9- Do some work!

Write some blogs, do some further learning and update your workbook. Pushing yourself to actually start can be hard but once you've finished I assure you you'll feel accomplished.

10- Bake or cook

My family and I have dedicated some nights to do our own come dine with me where we all make a dish (starter, main and dessert) and then judge whos was the best at the end.

11- Exercise

Do at-home workouts to stay fit and healthy, get some fresh air too by going on walks with your dog (if you have one of course).
