Just before Christmas, I went to stay with my elder sister in London. As she works within Conde Nast publications she gets the opportunity to review amazing restaurants around London and wanted to bring me along to help her write the review.
The aim of the review was to sample the Orrery terrace winter menu designed by chef Igor Tymchyshyn and try the new festive cocktails in collab with The White Company. I also made videos of the terrace which appear on Conde Nast's facebook and twitter pages.
It taught me the kind of content that magazines and digital publications produce and the process in which it happens.
First, we had to send it to the food and drinks editor who thought the place sounded appropriate for the existing piece, once approved my sister contacted the restaurant PR who arranged the complimentary experience. We were greeted by the general manager who talked us through the menu and the winter terrace, we then enjoyed the food and drink!
While at the meal we made notes on the atmosphere and food to help us later on when we wrote the review. Once Sophie and I wrote the review we sent it on to the food and drink editor who made a few changes to the copy. This then gets sent to the subs team who make grammatical changes and make sure the copy is up to standard and in the house style. This is then sent back to the digital team who source an image and publish the piece online. The digital team then sends the review back to the PR who shares and tags Conde Nast Traveller on their social media platforms which helps Traveller gain traffic and attention to the piece.
